Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris: A Dive into 20th and 21st Century Art

The Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris (MAM), situated in the east wing of the Palais de Tokyo, presents a panorama of artistic creation from the 20th and 21st centuries. Since opening in 1961, the museum has become a leading establishment in the Parisian cultural landscape. The museum's collection includes over 15,000 works, representing major artistic movements such as Fauvism, Cubism, the School of Paris, abstraction, New Realism, and Narrative Figuration. Visitors can admire masterpieces by renowned artists like Picasso, Matisse, Dufy, Modigliani, and Derain. The museum also features exceptional in situ works, including the first two versions of Matisse's *La Danse* and Dufy's monumental *La Fée Electricité*. The Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris was created in 1937 during the International Exhibition of Arts and Technology. The building itself, the Palais de Tokyo, is an architectural landmark from the 1930s. Its exterior, adorned with sculptures and columns, reflects the Art Deco style of the era. The museum's collection originated from donations, including a significant contribution of over 500 works featuring Fauvist paintings, Cubist pieces, and creations from the École de Paris. This donation led to the museum's relocation from the Petit Palais to the larger space in the Palais de Tokyo.
