    Discover more about Passerelle Debilly

The Passerelle Debilly, a charming footbridge stretching across the Seine in Paris, provides pedestrians and cyclists with a delightful route between the 16th and 7th arrondissements. Connecting the Quai de New York to the Quai Branly, it stands as a testament to the city's rich architectural heritage and offers unparalleled views of the Eiffel Tower. Constructed for the 1900 World's Fair, the Passerelle Debilly, initially a temporary structure, was designed by Jean Résal, who also contributed to the Pont Alexandre III and the Viaduc d'Austerlitz. The bridge was meant to facilitate visitor traffic to the various palaces and exhibits of the Exposition. Its metallic framework, resting on stone piers, is adorned with dark green ceramic tiles, creating a wave-like effect. Initially known as the 'passerelle de l'Exposition Militaire' or 'passerelle de Magdebourg,' it was later named Passerelle Debilly in 1906 to honor General Jean Louis Debilly, who died in the Battle of Jena in 1806. Saved from demolition, like the Eiffel Tower, the bridge became a permanent fixture in 1906 and was moved to its current location. Over the years, the Passerelle Debilly has undergone renovations, including repainting in 1991 and resurfacing with tropical wood in 1997. It has also served as a backdrop for several films and even as a meeting point for secret service agents during the Cold War. Today, the Passerelle Debilly remains a beloved landmark, offering a unique perspective on the City of Lights.
