Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Metzeral train station, head towards the center of the village and follow the signs for Cascade de la Wormsa. The hike to the waterfall is approximately 2 kilometers and takes around 1 hour. The trail is well-marked but can be steep and rocky in some sections. Follow the path along the river Fecht, then turn left towards the Wormsa Valley. You'll pass a monument to engineer François before reaching the falls.

  • Public Transport

    Take the train to Metzeral station. From there, follow the walking directions to Cascade de la Wormsa. The train from Munster to Metzeral costs approximately €3-5.

  • Driving

    From Munster, drive towards Metzeral and then Mittlach. Look for signs indicating Cascade de la Wormsa and park at the designated parking area near Steinabruck, about 2km from Metzeral. Parking is free. From the parking area, cross the bridge to your right and take the path to the left that runs alongside the Fecht river.

The Cascade de la Wormsa is a captivating natural attraction located in the heart of the Wormsa Valley, near the village of Metzeral in the Haut-Rhin department of France. This stunning waterfall is formed by the Wormsabachrunz stream, which originates from the heights of the Hohneck and Kastelberg massifs. The valley itself is a classified natural site, carved by a Vosges glacier, leaving behind a landscape of rivers, lakes, and cascading waterfalls. The falls descend through a rocky landscape, creating a series of smaller cascades and pools. The surrounding area is perfect for hiking, with trails that wind through the forest and alongside the stream. Wooden bridges have been installed by the Club Vosgien to allow visitors to safely cross the stream and explore the different levels of the falls. The hike to the top of the falls leads to the idyllic Fischboedle Lake, a small mountain lake surrounded by charming farms. The valley is also home to diverse flora and fauna, and visitors may encounter domestic animals such as donkeys, goats and sheep roaming freely. The area is steeped in history, with remnants of World War I cable car infrastructure visible along some of the hiking trails.
