Cascade de Mérelle is a picturesque waterfall nestled in the Vosges Mountains near Gérardmer, France. This serene location offers a peaceful escape with lush surroundings and easy access via hiking trails. The waterfall itself, though not very high (around 5 meters), is a charming sight as it flows over the rocks into the Ruisseau de Mérelle, which eventually empties into Lac de Gérardmer.

Walking
From the center of Gérardmer, follow the D417 road towards Ramberchamp, which runs along the northern side of the lake. In Ramberchamp, park near the stadium. From there, follow the paved road that ascends into the forest towards Tête de la Merelle. At the parking area of Tour de Mérelle, follow the blue disc markings. At the intersection, turn right, continuing to follow the blue markings. The paved road descends past a small pond, leading to an old Vosges farm. Take the unpaved path into the forest, and after approximately 15 minutes of descent, you will reach Cascade de Mérelle.
Public Transport
Take a train to Gérardmer. From the Gérardmer train station, take a local bus or taxi to reach the vicinity of Cascade de Mérelle. Check the local bus schedule in advance as services may be infrequent. Alight at the nearest bus stop and walk approximately 20 minutes to the waterfall. Ensure you have a map handy as the trail can be a bit tricky. Bus fare from Épinal to Gérardmer is approximately €5-€6.
Car
From Gérardmer, drive on the D417 towards La Bresse. After about 4 km, look for signs for Cascade de Mérelle. Turn onto the small road leading to the waterfall, approximately 3 km from the main road. There is a small parking area near the trailhead. Note that from June to September, access to the parking at Tour de Mérelle may be restricted to preserve the site. Parking fees, if applicable, are minimal.
