The Tomb of King Pōmare V is located at 'Outu'ai'ai point, in the municipality of Arue. This monument pays tribute to the last king of Tahiti and is constructed primarily from coral stones. The structure is a pyramid with a rectangular base and has an amphora, or urn, at the top. Originally, the tomb was built for Queen Pōmare IV, the king's mother, who reigned for 50 years. However, King Pōmare V had her remains moved to the Royal Pomare Cemetery so that he could occupy the tomb himself. He died in 1891 and was buried in the tomb. King Pōmare V reigned from 1877 until 1880 when he ceded Tahiti and its dependencies to France. For this, he received a pension from the French government. The tomb is open to the public and provides a glimpse into Tahiti's royal history. The surrounding area offers scenic views of the South Pacific Ocean.
