Stade Pater Te Hono Nui, often simply called Stade Pater, is more than just a stadium; it's a vibrant hub of sporting and community life in French Polynesia. Located in Pīra'e, Tahiti, this multi-use stadium has been a landmark since its construction in 1971 for the Pacific Games. With a capacity of up to 15,000, it stands as the largest stadium in the region. The stadium is primarily used for football (soccer) matches, serving as the home ground for the Tahiti national team and several local clubs, including AS Dragon, AS Pirae, and others. Over the years, Stade Pater has undergone several renovations and improvements. In 1995, a six-lane tartan track was installed. In 2003, renovations were carried out in conjunction with a visit from the French President Jacques Chirac. In 2008, the stadium was temporarily repurposed for the Tahiti Nui X Games, which caused damage to the field and track. Subsequent restoration efforts, completed in 2010, brought the stadium back to its former glory, with IAAF certification for international competitions.
