Nestled in the Kakheti region near Telavi, Ikalto Monastery is a historic monastic complex with roots in the 6th century. Founded by St. Zenon, one of the Assyrian Fathers, it later became a prominent center of learning with the establishment of the Ikalto Academy in the 12th century. Today, visitors can explore the monastery's ancient churches and the evocative ruins of the academy, set amidst the serene Kakhetian landscape.

Taxi
From the center of Telavi, taxis are readily available. A taxi ride to Ikalto Monastery typically takes around 15 minutes. Expect to pay between 4-5 GEL for the trip.
Public Transport
While there is no direct public transport to Ikalto Monastery, you can take a marshrutka (minibus) from Telavi towards Akhmeta and ask to be dropped off near Ikalto. From the drop-off point, it's approximately a 1.8-kilometer walk uphill to the monastery. The marshrutka fare from Telavi to the Ikalto area is around 1-2 GEL.
Walking
For those staying in the villages near Ikalto, such as Ruispiri, a walk to the monastery is possible. From the main road, follow the signs towards Ikalto Monastery. The walk is approximately 1.8 kilometers uphill and offers scenic views of the surrounding area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
