Car
If you're traveling by car from Khevi to Narikala, start by heading towards Tbilisi. Take the main road (E117) and follow the signs for Tbilisi. Once you reach the outskirts of Tbilisi, continue on the road until you reach the area of Old Tbilisi. You will need to find parking nearby as the fortress is located on a hill. Look for public parking spaces or hotel parking lots in the area and be prepared to pay a small fee, typically around 2-5 GEL per hour. After parking, you can either walk or take a short taxi ride to the entrance of Narikala Fortress.
Public Transportation
To reach Narikala using public transportation, start by taking a minibus (marshrutka) from Khevi to Tbilisi. These minibuses usually depart from central locations in Khevi and cost around 5 GEL for the ride. Once you arrive in Tbilisi, get off at the main bus station or another central stop. From there, you can take the metro to 'Liberty Square' station. After exiting the metro, head towards the Funicular Railway (located nearby) that will take you up to the fortress area. The funicular ride costs about 2 GEL. Upon reaching the top, follow the signs to Narikala Fortress. Alternatively, you can walk from Liberty Square through the charming streets of Old Tbilisi, which will take approximately 15-20 minutes.
Walking
If you're already in Old Tbilisi, you can simply walk to Narikala Fortress. Start at the 'Mother of Georgia' statue, which is located near the base of the fortress. From there, follow the path that leads up the hill towards the fortress entrance. The walk is quite steep but offers beautiful views of the city. It will take around 20-30 minutes on foot. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially if you're visiting during the warmer months.
