A fantastic hiking tour through the beautiful Truso Valley. The trail runs mostly on flat ground through the valley. You can either hike the entire 22 kilometers on foot or shorten the route by car. We booked the shorter option for a small additional fee, which is recommended depending on the weather. The view was breathtaking. Our hiking guide, Keti, was exceptionally organized and very knowledgeable. She loves the mountains; nature and the environment are truly close to her heart. Her enthusiasm was contagious and made our hikes an experience full of joy, fun, and amazement. Along the way, she also told us interesting stories and shared background information, which made the tour particularly entertaining. If we ever travel to Kazbegi again, we would book hikes with Mountain Freaks once more and highly recommend them without hesitation.

Fantastic Day Trip from Tbilisi

A brilliant (long) day trip from Tbilisi. The tour takes you to Stepantsminda, almost on the Russian border. En route you stop off at the Zhinvali Reservoir and the enchanting Ananuri fortress. But the highlight of the trip for us was a drive off-road up the Truso valley where we were able to do short hike in the stunning mountain-ringed valley. Some beautiful wild flowers - gentians and orchids amongst others. Plus some fascinating sulphur ponds and mineral-streaked rocks. Our guide Johan had perfect English and brought to life the sometimes turbulent history of the area along with insights into modern Georgia. My two sons (15 & 22) enjoyed the day as much as I did so it was a good family choice of outing. Note: the drive up the valley is seriously off-road - a real bone-shaker and you need a reasonable level of fitness for the walk.
