Secret Pool of Lailashi: A Lechkhumi Highland Gem

Nestled in the highlands of Racha-Lechkhumi, approximately 40 kilometers from Ambrolauri, lies the mountain village of Lailashi, famed for its breathtaking Secret Pool. Often referred to as the Okronishi Pool, this destination has become an Instagram sensation, celebrated as one of the most scenic spots in the Racha region. Originally a modest pool constructed during the Soviet era near a natural spring, it has since transformed into a must-visit location for photographers and nature enthusiasts. In the summertime, the pool fills with crisp mountain spring water, providing a revitalizing swimming experience amidst stunning scenery. The pool's design creates an illusion of an endless edge, resembling a natural infinity pool suspended in the Georgian mountains. Lailashi itself is a serene village, seemingly untouched by time, offering a glimpse into traditional Georgian life. The village has a rich history, with a diverse cultural heritage stemming from the presence of Georgians, Jews, Greeks, and Armenians. Historically, Lailashi is known for the Lailashi Bible, a unique 10th-century Jewish artifact now housed in Tbilisi's National Center of Manuscripts. The village also features an old Jewish synagogue and a damaged Armenian church, reflecting its multi-ethnic past. Reaching the pool involves a climb along a winding, unpaved road, best navigated with a high-clearance vehicle.
