Anna Ruby Falls is a captivating natural landmark where Curtis Creek and York Creek converge, creating a breathtaking display of twin waterfalls. Curtis Creek drops an impressive 153 feet, while York Creek falls a shorter but equally beautiful 50 feet. The falls are named after Anna Ruby Nichols, the daughter of Captain John H. Nichols, who settled in the area in the late 1800s and named them after his daughter. The Anna Ruby Falls Trail is a relatively easy, 0.9-mile round trip paved path that leads to observation decks providing stunning views of the falls. The trail meanders alongside Smith Creek, offering picturesque cascades and informational signs along the way. Benches are available for those who wish to pause and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. The paved surface makes the trail accessible to a wide range of visitors, including families with strollers and individuals using wheelchairs, though some sections have steep inclines. For those seeking a more challenging hike, the Smith Creek Trail offers a 8.7-mile round trip trek from Unicoi State Park to Anna Ruby Falls. This trail provides a more secluded experience, away from the crowds that frequent the paved path. Additionally, the Lion's Eye Trail, a 0.1-mile paved loop near the visitor center, is designed for visitors with visual impairments, featuring a cable handrail and interpretive signs in braille and regular text. The Anna Ruby Falls Recreation Area includes a visitor center with local crafts, educational items, and souvenirs. Picnic areas are available for visitors to enjoy a meal amidst the natural beauty. The area is open year-round, offering a chance to witness the falls in every season.
