After approximately 25 kilometers, look for signs directing you to Motsameta Monastery. You will turn off the highway onto a smaller road that leads to the monastery. Follow this road for about 10 kilometers until you reach a junction where you will see signs for Motsameta Monastery. The monastery is located about 2 kilometers from this junction. The total driving time from Zugdidi should be around 40-50 minutes, depending on traffic. Note that parking is available near the monastery, but it can get crowded during peak tourist seasons.
Public Transportation
To reach Motsameta Monastery using public transport, start by taking a marshrutka (minibus) from Zugdidi to Kutaisi. These marshrutkas run frequently and the journey takes about 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Kutaisi, you will need to transfer to another marshrutka heading towards the village of Motsameta. Be sure to ask the driver to drop you off at Motsameta Monastery, as it is a well-known destination. The second leg of the journey should take about 20-30 minutes. Upon arrival, you may need to walk a short distance to the entrance of the monastery. The total cost for the marshrutka rides is generally quite affordable, typically around 5-10 GEL.
