    To reach Vardzia Cavetown Viewpoint via public transportation, take a marshrutka (minibus) from Akhaltsikhe towards Vardzia. Marshrutkas leave from the main bus station in Akhaltsikhe. The journey takes about 1.5 hours and costs approximately 4 GEL. From the Vardzia bus stop, you can take a taxi to the viewpoint, which is approximately 5 km away. Confirm the fare with the taxi driver before starting your journey.

    Car

    If traveling by car, start from Akhaltsikhe and head southeast on E691 towards Vardzia. After approximately 30 km, take the exit towards Vardzia/Cave City. Continue on this road until you reach the parking area near the Vardzia complex. From the parking area, drive about 5 km to the Vardzia Cavetown Viewpoint, located at GPS coordinates 41.3786582, 43.2836761. Parking is available near the viewpoint.

    Walking

    If you prefer walking from the Vardzia bus stop, follow the main road leading to the Vardzia complex. The walk is about 5 km and takes approximately 1 hour. Be mindful of traffic and stay on the side of the road. Alternatively, if walking from the Vardzia cave monastery, head south on the main road (E117) until you reach the Gogasheni turnoff. The viewpoint is approximately 7 kilometers away from the monastery entrance.

    Vardzia Cavetown Viewpoint is a hidden gem in Georgia, providing an extraordinary vantage point overlooking the magnificent Vardzia cave monastery. Carved into the slopes of the Erusheti Mountain on the left bank of the Kura River, the main construction of the cave complex dates back to the second half of the 12th century. The monastery stretches along the cliff for some five hundred meters and in up to nineteen tiers. Queen Tamar commissioned the complex in the latter half of the 12th century during the Golden Age of the Georgian Kingdom. The location was strategic, serving as a spiritual center, fortress, and refuge from invaders. The complex consists of over 6,000 rooms spread across 19 tiers carved directly into the rock face. These spaces include churches, chapels, living quarters, wine cellars, and storage rooms, all interconnected by a labyrinth of tunnels, staircases, and terraces. From the viewpoint, visitors can appreciate the scale and ingenuity of this ancient site. The area is rich in greenery and offers splendid views of the surrounding mountains, making it an ideal location for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
