If you are traveling by car from Akhaltsikhe, head northwest on E60 towards Surami. The drive takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Follow the E60 road and then take the exit towards Surami. Once you enter Surami, follow the signs for Surami Fortress, which is located just off the main road. There is parking available near the fortress.
Public Transportation
To reach Surami Fortress via public transportation, start by taking a marshrutka (minibus) from Akhaltsikhe to Tbilisi. The marshrutka will drop you off at the main bus station in Tbilisi. From there, take another marshrutka heading to Surami. The journey from Tbilisi to Surami will take about 2 hours. Once you arrive in Surami, it is a short walk to the fortress. Look for local signs directing you to Surami Fortress.
Taxi
For a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from any major town in Samtskhe-Javakheti, such as Akhaltsikhe or Borjomi. This option is more expensive, typically costing around 50-70 GEL (Georgian Lari) depending on the distance and negotiation with the driver. The journey should take about 1 to 1.5 hours from Akhaltsikhe.
