From the center of Stepantsminda, the hike to Gveleti Waterfall is approximately 7 kilometers. Begin by heading north out of town on the main road. After a short distance, you'll see a turnoff for Gveleti village. Follow the paved road towards the village, and then continue onto the dirt road leading into the valley. Look for a stone with a red arrow indicating the trail to the larger waterfall. Cross the small footbridge and follow the path. The walk to both waterfalls and back takes approximately 1 hour.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Stepantsminda's central square. Negotiate a fare to the Gveleti Waterfall trailhead; drivers usually offer round trips and will wait while you hike. The cost is typically around 20-30 GEL. The taxi will drop you off closer to the trailhead, reducing the walking distance. From the drop-off point, follow the dirt road for approximately 800 meters until it splits. Look for the stone with the red arrow on the right, marking the path to the larger waterfall. Cross the footbridge and follow the trail.
