    Discover more about Aldenhofpark

Aldenhofpark, established in 1918 and designed by Pierre Lieven Rosseels, is one of Maastricht's most cherished green spaces. Once a former bear pit, the park has evolved into a tranquil oasis on the western bank of the Maas River, offering a blend of nature and cultural landmarks. A distinctive feature is the bronze sculpture of a bear on a bench, a nod to the park's past. Another striking artwork is Michel Huisman's 'The Consolations Machine' (2001), depicting a woman caressing a deceased giraffe. History enthusiasts will appreciate the statue of D'Artagnan, the legendary musketeer who died near Maastricht in 1673 during the Franco-Dutch War. The statue, crafted by Alexander Taratynov, portrays the musketeer drawing his sword. The park's lush greenery, mature trees, and benches create an ideal spot for relaxation. It's also home to various bird species, adding to its serene atmosphere. Situated near the historic Helpoort, Maastricht's oldest surviving city gate, Aldenhofpark seamlessly weaves together nature and history, offering a culturally rich experience.
