Constructed in 1863 as a school and teacher's residence, it later became the Donkiesjot youth center, hosting iconic artists like the Sex Pistols and U2. It also served as the former Museum Het Domein, from which the current name is derived. The Ligne 5 location is a modern cultural hub that integrates a library, cinema, museum, college, residential units, shops, and restaurants. Het Nieuwe Domein features both international avant-garde art and regional historical artifacts.
