Neues Schloss Tangerhütte: A Neoclassical Jewel
Discover the architectural elegance and historical charm of Neues Schloss Tangerhütte, nestled in a picturesque park setting.
The Neues Schloss Tangerhütte, situated in the town of Tangerhütte, is a testament to the wealth and ambition of the Wagenführ family, who made their fortune in ironworks. Built between 1909 and 1911 as a wedding gift for Johann Jacob Franz Wagenführ von Arnim, the mansion reflects a Neoclassical style inspired by Italian architecture. The castle boasts three stories and a prominent mansard roof. The exterior is adorned with the Wagenführ family crest above the entrance. The interior showcases a grand staircase, complete with marble columns and ornate details. The Tangerhütte sculptor Otto Funke contributed significantly to the castle's artistic design, including the elaborate fireplace in the Kaminzimmer (fireplace room). After World War II, the Schloss served various purposes, including a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients and a nursing home. Today, owned by the city, the Neues Schloss hosts guided tours, weddings, and other events. It is also a key feature of the Stadtpark Tangerhütte, one of the most beautiful parks in Saxony-Anhalt and part of the Garden Dreams network. The park itself features the Altes Schloss (Old Castle), a swan pond, a waterfall, and a cast-iron pavilion from the 1888 Paris World's Fair. Visitors can explore the park year-round, while the Neues Schloss is open for special events and tours. The combination of architectural beauty and parkland makes it a destination for history buffs and nature lovers alike.
