    Burg Alt-Eberstein, a captivating castle ruin, sits on a steep rock overlooking Baden-Baden. This historic site was once the seat of the Counts of Eberstein, dating back to around 1100. Later, it became property of the Margraves of Baden. Today, the castle invites visitors to explore its remnants and enjoy panoramic views. The castle's history is rich, with the first documented mention in 1197 as Castrum Eberstein. In the 13th century, the Ebersteins began constructing Neu-Eberstein Castle, leading to the decline of Alt-Eberstein. By 1573, it was abandoned and used as a quarry. The 19th century saw the start of preservation efforts, with the site now consisting of the curtain wall and keep. Visitors can wander through the castle grounds, taking in the breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley, the Murgtal, and the Black Forest. The 18-meter-high tower offers exceptional vistas, stretching as far as the Vosges mountains on a clear day. The castle also features a restaurant, Burg Café Alt-Eberstein, where visitors can dine amidst the historic setting. The ruins of Hohenbaden and Alt-Eberstein are connected by a footpath, offering extended exploration opportunities.
