Discover more about Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden

The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden is an internationally recognized exhibition hall dedicated to contemporary art. Founded in 1909, the Kunsthalle has become one of the oldest cultural institutions in the city and region. Unlike other state museums, the Kunsthalle does not have its own collection, allowing it the freedom to showcase a diverse range of modern and contemporary works within its 672 square meters of exhibition space. The building itself is an architectural attraction. Designed by Karlsruhe architect Hermann Billing, the Kunsthalle was built in the late Art Nouveau style, featuring classical Greco-Roman elements. Its asymmetrical exterior and unique building ornamentation make it a striking landmark at the entrance of Lichtentaler Allee. Throughout its history, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden has been committed to engaging with international contemporary art. The exhibitions have evolved over time, reflecting different artistic strategies and cultural perspectives. Past directors have showcased minimalist works, rediscovered American artists, and explored various themes of human existence. Today, the Kunsthalle continues to present a dynamic program of exhibitions, solidifying its role as a vital space for contemporary art. Since 2004, the Kunsthalle has been connected to the Museum Frieder Burda via a glass bridge, creating a unique public-private partnership and offering visitors a richer cultural experience.
