The Kuhflucht Waterfalls (Kuhfluchtwasserfälle) are a captivating natural attraction located near the village of Farchant, in the Bavarian Alps. The falls consist of a series of three main cascades, plunging a total of 270 meters down the mountainside, making them one of the highest waterfalls in Germany. The name 'Kuhflucht' has an interesting origin, possibly derived from the Latin word 'confluctum,' meaning confluence, referring to the point where the Kuhflucht stream joins the Loisach River. Another theory suggests the name comes from the local dialect, where 'Kuhflack' describes a shady spot where cows rest during the summer heat. The hike to the waterfalls is a rewarding experience, suitable for families and nature enthusiasts. The well-maintained trail winds through a beautiful forest, offering various attractions along the way, including the Walderlebnispfad Farchant (Farchant Forest Experience Trail) with interactive stations that explore the natural surroundings. The trail also features a Kneipp basin, offering a chance to cool off your feet in the refreshing water. As you ascend, the trail follows the Kuhfluchtgraben gorge, leading to the impressive waterfalls. Several viewing platforms provide stunning perspectives of the cascading water and the surrounding landscape. For those seeking a more challenging hike, the trail continues beyond the main viewpoints, offering even closer encounters with the upper falls.
