4.7

The Berlin Story Bunker, constructed in the 1940s as an air-raid shelter, offers a chilling yet essential journey through Berlin's history. Originally designed to protect up to 3,500 people from devastating bombing raids, the bunker later served various purposes, including a storage facility. Today, it stands as a powerful museum, preserving the memory of Berlin's past and educating visitors about the impact of war and political division on the city. Inside the bunker, visitors can explore large-format and interactive exhibits that illustrate the most important stages of Berlin's history. The museum uses a wide variety of exhibits to create 30 stations where visitors can explore a period in Berlin's history and really immerse themselves in it. Exhibits include the buckets of the Trümmerfrauen (rubble women), ruins, and suitcases of refugees. A highlight is the exhibition “Hitler - How could it happen,” which focuses on Hitler's rise to power and the Second World War. This exhibit features a full-size replica of Hitler's bunker room and a model of the Führerbunker. The Berlin Story Bunker also presents the period between 1945 and 1990, highlighting the Cold War division of Berlin. Touch screens, films, and other applications guide visitors through the Berlin Wall, the Soviet Occupation, the Berlin Airlift, and the lives of people living on both sides. The museum is not fully accessible. Plan to spend at least two and a half hours for a comprehensive visit.
