    Discover more about Glienicke Palace

Nestled on the peninsula of Berlin-Wannsee, Glienicke Palace transports visitors to an Italian Arcadia. In 1824, Prince Carl of Prussia acquired the Glienicke estate, driven by a vision of creating a Roman-style country house. He commissioned Karl Friedrich Schinkel, a prominent architect, to transform the existing manor into a neoclassical palace reminiscent of Italian villas. Schinkel not only expanded the palace but also designed auxiliary buildings in a classicist style. The palace's interior boasts vibrant colors, with rooms like the Red Hall, green drawing room, turquoise bedroom, and blue library. Golden picture frames, chandeliers, and valuable furniture accentuate the walls. The palace also features a Court Garden Museum in the west wing, showcasing the everyday life of gardeners through the centuries. The surrounding park, designed by landscape artist Peter Joseph Lenné, complements the palace's Mediterranean charm. The gardens are divided into a flower garden and a pleasure ground, featuring antique ornaments, a fountain, and the Cavalier's wing with a tower. The 'Great Curiosity,' a rotunda on the Glienicke Bridge, offers scenic views of the Havel River, Babelsberg Palace, and Potsdam. Glienicke Palace and its park have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.
