Sterntor: Bonn's Medieval Gateway

The Sterntor, or Star Gate, is a reconstructed medieval city gate in Bonn, Germany, a poignant reminder of the city's fortified past. Originally built around 1244, it was part of Bonn's defensive walls. The gate you see today isn't in its original location; it was moved in 1898 to prevent demolition due to increasing traffic. Re-erected in 1900, incorporating salvaged materials from the original gate, it stands as a symbol of Bonn's resilience and rich history. Located in the heart of the city center, near the bustling Friedensplatz, the Sterntor offers a glimpse into medieval architecture and the city's evolution. It's a popular spot for photographs and a starting point for exploring Bonn's historical attractions, surrounded by shops, cafes, and cultural landmarks.
