From Dresden, head to the Dresden Hauptbahnhof (main train station). You can take tram line 8 or 9 to reach the station if you are not nearby. Once at the Hauptbahnhof, purchase a ticket to Sebnitz, which is the closest town to Saxon Switzerland Mountains. Board the RE2 regional train towards Zittau. The journey takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Make sure to get off at the Sebnitz station.

Once you arrive at the Sebnitz train station, exit the station and look for the bus stop that is located directly outside. You can take the bus number 241 towards 'Bad Schandau.' The bus journey will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Make sure to ask the driver to let you know when you arrive at the Saxon Switzerland Mountains area, particularly if you are aiming for popular hiking trails like the Bastei.

If you prefer to walk, after getting off the train in Sebnitz, you can follow the signs for hiking trails. The walk to the Saxon Switzerland Mountains from Sebnitz takes about 1-2 hours depending on your pace.
