Public Transport - Tram
From Essen city center, head to the Essen Steele S-Bahn station. Take the S1 line towards Düsseldorf. After approximately 20 minutes, disembark at Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (main train station). From there, exit the station and follow the signs for the tram. Take tram line 701 or 704 towards 'Düsseldorf Altstadt'. The tram ride will take about 10 minutes. Get off at the 'Heinrich-Heine-Allee' stop. You will be in the heart of the Altstadt, just a short walk away from the attractions.
Public Transport - Bus
From Essen, make your way to the Essen Bus Station. Catch bus line 140 towards Düsseldorf. The journey will take about 30 minutes. Get off at the 'Düsseldorf Altstadt' stop. Once you disembark, you will find yourself in the Altstadt area, where you can explore various restaurants, bars, and historical sites.
Walking
If you are near the Essen Cathedral, you can take a scenic walk to Düsseldorf. Head south on Altendorfer Str. towards Kaiserstraße. Continue straight for about 5 km until you reach the Rhine River. Once you are at the riverbank, follow the path along the river which will lead you directly into Düsseldorf Altstadt. This is approximately a 1 hour walk, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes.
