Public Transport
From Essen Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take the U11 subway line towards Messe/Gruga. Get off at the 'Messe Ost/Gruga' stop, which is the main entrance to Grugapark. From there, follow the signs within the park to the Eulen-Gehege (owl enclosure), a pleasant walk of approximately 15-20 minutes. A single ticket for public transport within Essen costs approximately €2.80.
Driving
If driving, follow signs for Messe Essen. The Grugapark is located adjacent to the Messe (exhibition center). Use the Rüttenscheid or Margarethenhöhe exit from the A52 motorway. Parking is available at the Messe Essen parking lots. Visitors to Grugapark can get a discounted daily parking fee of €8 by having their parking ticket validated at the Grugapark entrance. Without validation, hourly rates apply, potentially costing more. Please note that Essen has environmental zones, and a green emissions sticker is required for your car.
Walking
If you are already near the Grugapark, for example, staying at a hotel in the Rüttenscheid district, walking is a viable option. Follow the signs directing you to the Grugapark. Once inside the park (entry fee €5 for adults), follow the internal signs towards the Eulen-Gehege. The walk from the main entrance to the owl enclosure is approximately 15-20 minutes, offering scenic views of the park.
