Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Fichtel Mountains. Take the B299 road towards Tröstauer Forst-Ost. After approximately 15 kilometers, you will reach the village of Tröstauer Forst-Ost. From there, follow the signs for hiking trails leading towards Großer Habersteinfelsen. There is a parking area designated for hikers at the base of the mountain. Please note that parking may incur a small fee, typically around €2 for the day.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a regional train to the nearest station, which is in Marktredwitz. From Marktredwitz, you can catch a bus (line 695) towards Tröstauer Forst-Ost. The bus will drop you off at a stop near the hiking trail entrance to Großer Habersteinfelsen. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may be limited on weekends. A one-way bus ticket will cost around €3.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the designated parking area or bus stop, you will start your hike towards Großer Habersteinfelsen. The trail is well-marked and takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the summit, depending on your pace. Ensure you wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry water, as the trail can be steep in places. The views from the top are breathtaking, making the hike worthwhile.
