Walking
From the Schwabentor city gate in Freiburg's Old Town, cross the bridge and follow the path uphill. The walk to Kanonenplatz takes approximately 20-30 minutes, offering scenic views along the way. The path is well-marked but can be steep in some sections. Alternatively, from the Stadtgarten, follow signs towards the Schlossbergbahn valley station.
Public Transport
Take tram line 1 to the 'Oberlinden' stop. From there, it's a 10-15 minute uphill walk to Kanonenplatz. Follow the signs towards Schlossberg. Alternatively, from the tram stop, walk towards the Stadtgarten and take the Schlossbergbahn funicular railway up the mountain.
Schlossbergbahn Funicular
The Schlossbergbahn valley station is located in the Stadtgarten. A one-way ticket costs €3.50 for adults and €2.80 for children (ages 6-14). A round trip ticket costs €6.00 for adults and €4.50 for children. The funicular ride takes approximately 3 minutes, delivering you near the Dattler Restaurant, from where it's a short, level walk to Kanonenplatz. The funicular is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Freiburg's city center to the Dattler Schlossberg Restaurant (near Kanonenplatz) will cost approximately €10-€15, depending on traffic. From the restaurant, it's a short, level walk to Kanonenplatz. Note that parking near the restaurant is limited.
