Car
If you're driving from central Harz, head towards Wernigerode via the B244 road. Follow signs for Wernigerode. Once you enter Wernigerode, look for signs to the castle. The castle is located at Am Schloß 1, 38855 Wernigerode. There are parking facilities available near the castle, which may incur a small fee (usually around €2-€4 for a few hours).
Train
From various towns in the Harz region, take a train to Wernigerode Bahnhof (train station). The train ride is scenic and takes about 30-45 minutes depending on your starting point. Once you arrive at Wernigerode Bahnhof, exit the station and head towards the city center. You can walk to the castle, which is approximately 1.5 kilometers uphill from the station, taking about 20-30 minutes. Alternatively, you can catch a local bus (Line 1 or 2) from the station to the castle area.
Bus
If you're in nearby towns such as Bad Harzburg or Quedlinburg, you can take a regional bus to Wernigerode. The bus will drop you off at the main bus station in Wernigerode. From there, follow the signs or use a map app to walk to Wernigerode Castle, which is about a 20-minute walk uphill. Local buses may also run to the castle during tourist season, so check the local bus schedules for that option.
Walking
If you are already in Wernigerode, walking to Wernigerode Castle is a beautiful option. From the city center, head up Breite Straße and continue on to Am Schloß. The walk takes about 20-30 minutes, and the path is well marked. Enjoy the scenic views along the way as you ascend to the castle.
