The primary access to Mainau Island is via ferry. Ferries depart regularly from various points around Lake Constance, including Konstanz, Meersburg, and Überlingen. From Konstanz, the ferry ride to Mainau Island takes approximately 15-30 minutes. A round-trip ferry ticket from Konstanz to Mainau Island costs around €15-20 per adult. The ferry docks directly at the island's entrance.
Bus
Alternatively, you can take a bus to the Litzelstetten or Wallhausen bus stops on the mainland, which are the closest to Mainau Island. From either bus stop, it's approximately a 15-20 minute walk to the Mainau Island bridge. Bus fares vary depending on your starting location, but a single ticket within Konstanz costs around €2.50. From the bus stop, follow the signs towards the Insel Mainau bridge, which connects the mainland to the island. There is no fee to cross the bridge.
Parking
If arriving by car, parking is available on the mainland near the island entrance. Follow signs for 'Insel Mainau' parking. Parking fees typically range from €7-10 per day. From the parking area, it's a short walk across the bridge to the island entrance. Note that parking can be limited during peak season, so arriving early is recommended.
