Walking
From Leipzig Hauptbahnhof (main train station), the Marktplatz is approximately a 10-minute walk. Exit the station and head straight along Grimmaische Straße. You'll pass several shops and restaurants. Continue until you reach the Marktplatz on your left. Alternatively, from Augustusplatz, walk west along Grimmaische Straße, passing the Opera House on your right. The Marktplatz will be on your left after approximately 5 minutes. No costs involved.
Public Transport
Several tram lines stop directly at or near the Marktplatz. Take tram lines 4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, or 16 to the 'Markt' stop. From the tram stop, the Marktplatz is just a few steps away. A single ticket (Zone 110, valid within Leipzig) costs approximately €2.80. Alternatively, take the S-Bahn (suburban train) lines S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, or S5X to the 'Leipzig Markt' station, which is located underground beneath the Marktplatz. Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Leipzig Hauptbahnhof to the Marktplatz will take approximately 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. Expect to pay around €8-€12. Several taxi stands are located outside the main exits of the train station.
Driving
Driving directly to the Marktplatz is not possible as it is a pedestrian zone. However, you can park in one of the nearby parking garages. The Q-Park Marktgalerie is located close to St. Thomas Church and offers underground parking. Access is via Dittrichring. Hourly rates are approximately €2.00, with a maximum daily fee of €20.00. Another option is the Parkhaus Augustusplatz, about a 5-minute walk from the Marktplatz. Similar hourly and daily rates apply. Be aware of the environmental zones within the city.
