Discovering the Historical Grabanlage of Oberammergau

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Oberammergau, typically around the town square (Ludwigstraße). Head southeast on Ludwigstraße toward Wiesenweg. Continue straight onto Garmischer Straße/B2, following the signs for Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After about 1.5 kilometers, turn right onto Grabenweg. Follow Grabenweg for about 1 kilometer, and then turn left onto the path leading to Historische Grabanlage, which is situated in a wooded area. There is no dedicated parking at the site, but you can park along Grabenweg or in nearby residential areas. Ensure to check for any parking restrictions.

  For those using public transportation, start by taking the local bus service from the Oberammergau bus station. You can catch the bus marked 'Garmisch-Partenkirchen' which runs frequently. Get off at the 'Grabenweg' stop, which is approximately a 5-minute ride from the center of Oberammergau. From the bus stop, walk down Grabenweg until you reach the path leading to Historische Grabanlage. The entire journey should take about 15-20 minutes.   If you prefer to walk, begin at the central square of Oberammergau. Head southeast on Ludwigstraße toward Wiesenweg, then continue straight onto Garmischer Straße/B2. After about 1.5 kilometers, turn right onto Grabenweg. From there, it's a pleasant walk through the natural surroundings for about 1 kilometer until you find the path leading to Historische Grabanlage. This walking route is approximately 2.5 kilometers one way and should take about 30-40 minutes, depending on your pace.
