By Car
If you're traveling by car, start from your location in Palatinate and head towards the A61 highway. Follow the signs towards Koblenz. After about 15 km, take the exit for B49 towards Cochem/Beilstein. Continue on B49 for approximately 20 km until you reach Beilstein. Once in Beilstein, look for signs directing you to Burg Metternich. The castle is located just above the village, and there is a parking area nearby (note that parking may incur a fee). From the parking area, it is a short walk to the castle entrance.
By Public Transportation
To reach Metternich Castle using public transportation, take a regional train from your nearest station in Palatinate to Cochem. Once you arrive at Cochem train station, you can take a bus (Bus 711) towards Beilstein. The bus ride takes about 15 minutes. Get off at the Beilstein stop. From the bus stop, follow the signs to Burg Metternich; it is a steep uphill walk of approximately 15-20 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time, as services may be limited, especially on weekends.
Walking from Beilstein
If you prefer to walk from Beilstein, you can start at the village center. Follow the signs for Burg Metternich. The walk is steep and will take about 20-30 minutes. The path is well-marked, but be prepared for a uphill trek. Wear comfortable shoes as the terrain can be uneven. Once you reach the castle, enjoy the stunning views of the Moselle River and the surrounding landscape.
