Car
From the center of Ruhr, head towards the A46 motorway. Follow signs for Hagen and merge onto A46. Continue on A46 for about 30 kilometers and take the exit toward Altena (exit 8). Follow the signs for Altena on B236. Once in Altena, turn left onto Fritz-Thomee-Straße. Altena Castle will be on your right at Fritz-Thomee-Straße 80. There is a parking fee of approximately €2.00 for parking near the castle.
Public Transportation
Start by taking a train from your nearest station in Ruhr to Hagen. Use the RE (Regional Express) line which usually takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Hagen, transfer to the RE 57 train towards Altena. The train ride from Hagen to Altena will take about 20 minutes. After getting off at Altena station, it is approximately a 20-minute walk to Altena Castle. Exit the station and head southeast on Bahnhofstraße, continue onto Eberstraße, turning right onto Fritz-Thomee-Straße. Altena Castle is located at Fritz-Thomee-Straße 80.
