Discover more about Freizeitpark Lochmühle

Freizeitpark Lochmühle, a beloved destination in the Rhine-Main area, offers a unique blend of amusement park excitement and rustic charm. Situated in Wehrheim, near Bad Homburg, the park's history stretches back centuries, with the site first mentioned in the 13th century as a mill. The name "Lochmühle" itself, dating back to 1767, translates to "mill on the border," a nod to its location near marked boundaries in the wooded area. Over the centuries, the mill changed hands and purposes, even facing destruction during the Thirty Years' War. After World War II, the Zwermann family cultivated the land, eventually leading to Theo Zwermann's decision to breed ponies due to health reasons. This marked the beginning of the park's transformation into the family-friendly destination it is today. In 1970, Freizeitpark Lochmühle officially opened, offering pony rides and a connection to rural life. Over time, the park expanded to include a variety of attractions, catering primarily to families with children up to age 12. While it may not boast the high-tech thrills of larger theme parks, Lochmühle excels in providing a wholesome and engaging experience rooted in nature and agriculture. The park's attractions are diverse, ensuring there's something for everyone. For thrill-seekers, there's a roller coaster, a giant slide, and the "Schinderhannes swing." Water enthusiasts can enjoy the water bobsled and various water rides. Younger children will delight in the pony rides, petting zoos, and the tractor track railway, which offers an informative journey through agriculture. The park also features several playgrounds, trampoline fields, and an indoor play center for all-weather fun. Lochmühle's commitment to its agricultural roots is evident throughout the park. An agricultural learning trail provides insights into farming practices, while the agricultural museum showcases the tools and techniques of the past. Visitors can also interact with farm animals, such as calves, foals, goats, pigs, and sheep, in the petting zoo. With a bit of luck, they might even witness chicks hatching in the animal nursery. Adding to the park's unique appeal is its connection to Roman history. The Roman Trail takes visitors past the remains of a Roman fort, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Limes, offering a glimpse into the region's ancient past. This blend of amusement park rides and historical elements sets Lochmühle apart from other family destinations. Freizeitpark Lochmühle also caters to visitors' practical needs. The park offers a variety of dining options, from restaurants and snack kiosks to picnic areas and barbecue facilities. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and utilize the free grilling huts.
