Although the dukes of Leuchtenberg were not directly connected to the original Landgraves, their title served as a reminder of the region's rich and complex history. Duke Dimitri of Leuchtenberg, a descendant of this line, later became known for pioneering skiing in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, Canada.
