Burg Katz: A Majestic Fortress Overlooking the Rhine

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, navigate to the A61 motorway. Take exit 50 towards Sankt Goarshausen. Follow signs for B42 towards Sankt Goar. Continue on B42, passing through the town of Sankt Goar. Once you reach Sankt Goarshausen, follow the signs for Burg Katz. The castle is located at An d. Burg Katz 3, 56346 St. Goarshausen. There is parking available nearby, but please note that some areas may require payment. Make sure to check for any parking fees.

• Train and Bus

  For those using public transportation, take a train to the nearest station, Sankt Goar. From major cities like Mainz or Koblenz, you can catch a regional train (RE or RB) that will take you directly to Sankt Goar. Upon arriving at Sankt Goar station, exit the station and walk towards the bus stop. Take bus line 662 towards Sankt Goarshausen. Get off at the stop 'Sankt Goarshausen, Bahnhof' (it’s just a short ride). From there, it's a 15-minute walk to Burg Katz. Follow the signs leading to the castle, and enjoy the scenic route that offers views of the Rhine River.

• Walking

  If you are already in Sankt Goarshausen, you can walk to Burg Katz. Start from the center of Sankt Goarshausen and head towards the river. Follow the path along the Rhine until you reach the base of the hill on which Burg Katz is situated. The walk will take approximately 30-40 minutes. The path may be steep, so wear comfortable shoes. Along the way, take in the beautiful views of the Rhine Valley.
