If you are driving to Altena Castle, start by entering your GPS or navigation system the address: Fritz-Thomee-Straße 80, 58762 Altena. From central Westphalia, you can take the A1 or A45 highways which connect to the A46. Follow signs for Altena and take exit 9 towards Altena/Neuenrade. Continue on L692, then follow signs to the castle. There is a parking area available near the castle, but keep in mind that parking may incur a small fee (around €2-€4).

To reach Altena Castle via public transportation, take a train to Altena Station (Bahnhof Altena). From major cities in Westphalia like Dortmund, you can take a regional train (RE) which directly connects to Altena. The journey takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. Upon arriving at Altena Station, exit the station and follow the signs for bus 527 towards 'Altena - Burg'. This bus will take you directly to the stop 'Altena - Burg', which is a short walk from the castle entrance. The bus fare is approximately €2.50.
