Discover more about Alpspix

AlpspiX, a marvel of engineering and a testament to the allure of the Bavarian Alps, stands as a premier attraction in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This striking viewing platform, inaugurated in July 2010, offers visitors an unparalleled experience, combining breathtaking panoramic views with a thrilling sense of adventure. Located on the Osterfelderkopf, a secondary summit of the Alpspitze, AlpspiX provides a unique vantage point high above the dramatic Höllental valley. The platform itself is a feat of construction, comprising two steel beams that extend 24 meters, forming an X-shape that gives the attraction its name. These beams, covered with gratings, allow visitors to peer directly down into the 1,000-meter abyss below, creating a heart-stopping sensation. At the end of the walkways, a slanted glass panel offers an unobstructed panoramic view, provided it's not obscured by the elements. The entire structure weighs approximately 30 tons, with individual components transported to the site via helicopter. Reaching AlpspiX is an adventure in itself. The most common route involves taking the Alpspitzbahn cable car from its valley station on Olympiastraße. The cable car ascends to the mountain station on the Osterfelderkopf, a journey that offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
