Experience Independence square

Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Osu, walk towards the main Oxford Street. Once on Oxford Street, head straight towards the traffic light at the intersection with the Liberation Road. Continue walking past the traffic light, and you will eventually see the large monument of the Black Star Square on your right. The entrance to Independence Square is adjacent to the square. It’s about a 15-minute walk.

    If you are at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, exit the mausoleum grounds and walk towards the main road, which is the George Bush Highway. Cross the road and head east towards the Independence Arch. The Independence Square is located right next to the Arch. This walk will take approximately 10 minutes.

    From the Accra Central market, head towards the High Street. Walk west along the High Street until you reach the intersection with the Liberation Road. Turn left onto Liberation Road and continue straight. You will find Independence Square on your left after a 20-minute walk.

  • Public Transport (Trotro)

    If you prefer to take a trotro, head to the nearest trotro station and catch one heading towards Osu or the central business district. Request to be dropped off at the Independence Arch stop. From there, it's a short 5-minute walk to Independence Square. Follow the signage leading to the square.
