Overview
Maranatha Beach Camp, located in the serene fishing community of Kewunor, Ada Foah, presents a unique and immersive experience where the mighty Volta River embraces the vast Atlantic Ocean. Situated just two hours east of Accra, this charming beach camp offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city life, inviting travelers to unwind and reconnect with nature. Founded in 2005 by Winfred Dzinado, Maranatha Beach Camp began as a small-scale initiative with a few huts on the sandy shores of Ada Foah. Driven by a deep-seated commitment to community development, Winfred envisioned using the camp's profits to support local education. This vision led to the establishment of the Maranatha Community School, which provides affordable and accessible education to children in the area. Today, Maranatha Beach Camp boasts 30 rustic huts and dorm rooms, offering simple yet comfortable accommodations for guests. The camp's commitment to sustainability and community empowerment creates a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from typical tourist destinations. Visitors can immerse themselves in the local culture, interact with friendly villagers, and contribute to the camp's ongoing mission of supporting education. The camp's location at the Volta estuary provides a stunning backdrop for relaxation and adventure. Guests can stroll along the pristine beaches, swim in the refreshing waters, or simply lounge under the shade of swaying palm trees. The camp also offers a variety of activities, including boat trips to nearby islands, excursions to local markets, and community tours that provide insights into the daily lives of the residents. Evenings at Maranatha Beach Camp are filled with warmth and camaraderie. On Saturday nights, guests gather around a bonfire to dance, share stories, and enjoy the rhythmic beats of traditional Ghanaian music. During the week, the atmosphere is more relaxed, with opportunities for board games, movie nights, and quiet contemplation. For those seeking to explore the surrounding area, Maranatha Beach Camp offers a range of excursions. Boat trips to Crocodile Island and Rum Island provide opportunities to encounter local wildlife and sample traditional Ghanaian spirits. Visits to the mangrove forests offer a glimpse into the region's rich biodiversity, while community tours provide insights into the local culture and traditions. Maranatha Beach Camp is more than just a place to stay; it's an opportunity to connect with nature, immerse oneself in local culture, and support a worthy cause. The camp's commitment to sustainability, community empowerment, and authentic experiences makes it a truly unique and unforgettable destination. Come between November and January and you may be lucky to see one of the 5 species of turtle who come visit us every year to lay their eggs on our beach. If you want to stay longer you can take part in our volunteer programme. We have a variety of opportunities for you to help, either in our school or the local community. The camp's restaurant serves delicious local and international cuisine, ensuring that guests can savor a taste of Ghanaian flavors during their stay. Visitors can also partake in various outdoor activities, such as beach volleyball, kayaking, and fishing, providing ample opportunities for adventure and exploration. Maranatha Beach Camp is not just a place to stay; it's an experience that embraces the beauty of nature and the warmth of Ghanaian hospitality. The beauty of the Maranatha Beach Camp is that you won't find it on any booking site. Outside of reviews on TripAdvisor, there's really not a whole lot of information out there, which only adds to the allure of this isolated oasis. Don't worry, I can see your confusion.
