    The Main Guard is a historic building situated in John Mackintosh Square, Gibraltar, with its origins dating back to the mid-18th century. The exact construction date remains unknown, but references to it appear in documents from that era. During this time, John Mackintosh Square was known as The Parade, serving as a parade ground for troops.The building is believed to have sustained significant damage during the Great Siege of Gibraltar (1779-1783) due to its proximity to the King's Bastion. The second story, which is present today, was likely added during the reconstruction. Over the years, the Main Guard has served various functions. It was initially a guardhouse, then a fire station between the two World Wars, and later a public bathhouse after World War II. In the latter half of the 20th century, it was repurposed as government offices.Since 2001, the Main Guard has been the headquarters of the Gibraltar Heritage Trust. In 2014, it underwent a major renovation, restoring it to its former appearance and enhancing the heritage value of John Mackintosh Square. The ground floor is open to the public on weekdays, featuring a reception area, exhibition space, shop, and patio.
