    From Casemates Square, walk east towards Main Street. Continue onto Line Wall Road, then turn left into Ocean Village. The Royal Marines Gibraltar Monument is located in Marina Bay Square, within Ocean Village.

  • Public Transport

    Take any of the local bus routes (1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, or 9) that stop near Casemates Square. From the bus stop, walk east towards Main Street, continue onto Line Wall Road, and turn left into Ocean Village. The monument is in Marina Bay Square. Bus fares are approximately £2.20 for a single journey.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available throughout Gibraltar, including at the airport, border, and Grand Casemates Square. A taxi from the airport to Ocean Village will cost approximately £15-£20. The monument is located in Marina Bay Square.

  • Parking

    Public parking is available at the Ocean Village Public Car Park. It is located minutes away from Ocean Village Marina, Marina Bay, and Casemates Square. Short term parking is available for up to 72 hours. Check for discount vouchers at Ocean Village restaurants. As of June 2020, five hours of free parking was available with the purchase of food or drinks at participating restaurants. As of July 2025, parking rates are £1.70 per hour from 7 AM to 7 PM.

The Royal Marines Gibraltar Monument stands as a tribute to the Royal Marines' long and distinguished history with Gibraltar. The monument, erected to honor the Royal Marines, marks the enduring link between Gibraltar and the Royal Marines. It was dedicated in 2009 by the Commandant General Royal Marines.The Royal Marines' association with Gibraltar dates back to July 21, 1704, when British and Dutch Marines, led by the Prince of Hesse Darmstadt, landed near the isthmus. They laid siege to the Garrison of Gibraltar following a naval assault on the New Mole. The Garrison surrendered on July 26. Following the capture, the marines formed the largest contingent on the Rock and bore the brunt of the fighting with Spanish and French troops.King George IV decreed in 1827 that the Royal Marines' Colours would bear the symbol of the “Great Globe itself” and that the only battle honor on Royal Marines' Colours would be that of Gibraltar. This unique honor reflects the pivotal role the Royal Marines played in the history of Gibraltar.Today, the monument offers visitors a place for reflection and appreciation of the sacrifices made by the Royal Marines. It also provides stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Rock of Gibraltar, making it a picturesque location for photography and peaceful contemplation. The surrounding Ocean Village offers a vibrant atmosphere with various dining and shopping options, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the local culture.
