Discover more about Gibraltar Cable Car

The Gibraltar Cable Car provides a quick and scenic journey to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar, ascending 412 meters above sea level in approximately six minutes. Built in 1966 by Swiss cable car experts, Von Roll Holding, the cable car was initially constructed for military purposes but soon became a key attraction for tourists. From the Top Station, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain, and Morocco, encompassing two continents and the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The station complex includes a café, restaurant, and souvenir shop. The famous Barbary macaques, also known as apes, roam freely around the top station, entertaining visitors with their antics. The cable car also provides access to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, where you can explore attractions such as St. Michael's Cave, the Great Siege Tunnels, and the Skywalk. A multimedia tour, accessible via a QR code provided with your ticket, guides you around the top station terraces, offering insights into Gibraltar's history and landmarks. The cable car operates daily, with varying hours depending on the season. The last major renovation took place in 1986, with the cabins being replaced, and in 2007 the Top Station was refurbished. Interesting fact: The Gibraltar Cable Car was not only built for tourists. It was originally used for military purposes.
