The square is a short, straightforward walk from most points in the city center. No costs are associated with walking to the square.

    If starting from Queen's Road, catch a bus towards the city center. Alight at the main bus terminal near Casemates Square. The bus fare is typically around £1. From the bus terminal, walk straight towards Casemates Square, which is just a few minutes away.

The last public military hanging was held in 1864.Today, Grand Casemates Square is a commercial hub with numerous pubs, bars, restaurants, and shops. Refurbished in the 1990s, it replaced a car park and has since become a popular spot for socializing and relaxation. The square hosts various cultural events, from live open-air concerts to National Day celebrations. Visitors can explore the historic Grand Casemates, a bombproof barracks built by the British in 1817, which gives the square its name.Archaeological finds in the 1990s revealed remains of a 14th-century galley house, showcasing the area's rich history. A statue of a Gibraltar Defence Force soldier commemorates the regiment's dedication. The square also features a Koehler depression gun carriage, a unique weapon used during the Great Siege of Gibraltar.
