From Main Street, simply walk north towards the end of the street. Grand Casemates Square is located at the northern end of Main Street and is easily accessible on foot. The square is a short, straightforward walk from most points in the city center. No costs are associated with walking to the square.
Public Transport

If starting from Queen's Road, catch a bus towards the city center. Alight at the main bus terminal near Casemates Square. The bus fare is typically around £1. From the bus terminal, walk straight towards Casemates Square, which is just a few minutes away.

It was once a beach where the first Moroccan settlers landed. Over the centuries, it has been under Spanish and British control, each leaving their mark on the area. In the past, Grand Casemates Square was used for public events, military parades, and even public executions. The last public military hanging was held in 1864.Today, Grand Casemates Square is a commercial hub with numerous pubs, bars, restaurants, and shops. Refurbished in the 1990s, it replaced a car park and has since become a popular spot for socializing and relaxation. The square hosts various cultural events, from live open-air concerts to National Day celebrations. Visitors can explore the historic Grand Casemates, a bombproof barracks built by the British in 1817, which gives the square its name.Archaeological finds in the 1990s revealed remains of a 14th-century galley house, showcasing the area's rich history. A statue of a Gibraltar Defence Force soldier commemorates the regiment's dedication. The square also features a Koehler depression gun carriage, a unique weapon used during the Great Siege of Gibraltar.
