Devil's Tower, located in Gibraltar, was an ancient watchtower with a rich history. The tower was constructed from limestone and served as part of Gibraltar's northeast defenses. It was also known as la Torre del Diablo, la Torre de los Diablos, la Torre de los Angeles, el Angel de la Guardia, la Atalaya del Mar de Levante, and la Torre de San Pedro. In 1940, the tower was demolished during World War II because it was in the line of fire of one of Gibraltar's guns. The tower's name lives on in the Devil's Tower Camp, the Devils Tower Emplacement, and Devil's Tower Road. Near Devil's Tower, a cave was discovered where the skull of a Neanderthal child was found in 1926. The Devil's Tower Cave is a narrow fissure in the north face of the Rock.
