    From most points within Gibraltar's city center, the Gibraltar Heritage Trust is easily accessible on foot. Head towards John Mackintosh Square, also known as The Piazza, the main square in the city center. The Main Guard building, which houses the Trust, is located on the square. No costs are involved.

  • Public Transport

    Several bus routes operated by the Gibraltar Bus Company and Citibus serve the city center and John Mackintosh Square. From the frontier with Spain or the airport, take Citibus routes 5 or 10 to Reclamation Road (British Steps), near John Mackintosh Square. As of July 2025, a single bus fare is approximately £1.60-£1.80. Exact change may be required on some buses. A day ticket for unlimited travel is also available for around £6.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available throughout Gibraltar. A short taxi ride to John Mackintosh Square from the frontier or airport will cost approximately £5-£10. There is a taxi stand located at John Mackintosh Square.

Originally known as La Alameda, it has served as a parade ground, a marketplace, and a public auction site. Today, the square is a vibrant public space surrounded by notable buildings, including the Parliament Building and the City Hall. The square was officially named John Mackintosh Square in 1940, honoring a local philanthropist.
