The building itself has a storied past, having served as a fire station and public bathhouse before becoming the Trust's headquarters in 2001. Visitors can explore the ground floor, which features a shop and exhibition area open to the public.The Trust's work extends beyond its physical location, encompassing a wide range of conservation projects, educational programs, and public events. It collaborates with the Government of Gibraltar and other organizations to manage historical assets and promote heritage tourism. The Trust also maintains a list of historically important buildings and structures, providing advice on their preservation and restoration.John Mackintosh Square, where the Trust is located, has been the center of city life since the 14th century. Originally known as La Alameda, it has served as a parade ground, a marketplace, and a public auction site. Today, the square is a vibrant public space surrounded by notable buildings, including the Parliament Building and the City Hall. The square was officially named John Mackintosh Square in 1940, honoring a local philanthropist.
