This site, likely used as an observation point by Governor General George Augustus Eliott during the Great Siege of Gibraltar (1779–83), offers commanding views of the Bay of Gibraltar and the Spanish coastline.Originally armed with a single 9-inch rifled muzzle-loading gun (RML) in 1886, the battery was later upgraded with a 9.2-inch breech-loading gun. By the early 1900s, plans were in place to mount four 9.2-inch guns, but only one Mk X gun on a Mk V mounting was installed. The last gun was removed in 1940 during World War II. The battery's underground works included a magazine and cartridge store.Today, visitors can explore the well-preserved structures and imagine the site's pivotal role in defending Gibraltar. The battery is now used as a Scout camp. The site offers a tranquil environment with breathtaking vistas, ideal for photography, picnicking, or simply soaking in the views.
