In 1827, King George IV decreed that the Royal Marines' colors would bear the symbol of the globe, with Gibraltar as their sole battle honor. The Corps were granted the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar in 1996.Visitors can explore the monument and appreciate the surrounding Ocean Village, which offers a blend of modernity and history with restaurants, shops, and leisure activities.
